The Environ Ionzyme DF Machine – background

Constant research and development in the cosmetic world is resulting in new technology that is providing better and quicker results in all areas of skin care today. Dr Des Fernandes, a Cape Town Plastic Surgeon, is renowned as a pioneer in the realms of skin care. In 1990 Dr Des Fernandes was one of the first in the world to introduce the use of vitamin A in effective levels in a skin care cream with the introduction of the Environ Original Range of products (now AVST – Advanced Vitamin Skin Therapy).

Although Iontophoresis (the use of a current to help ‘push’ gels further into the skin) was already being used with galvanic machines, by 1996 Dr Fernandes realised that there were other properties of Iontophoresis that could be improved. Unable to find someone locally with necessary expertise to produce such a unit, he continued to pursue his ideas during his travels around the world. He eventually came into contact with a Japanese business associate at a beauty fait in Japan, who turned out to be the pioneer researcher for Iontophoresis in Japan. It transpired that he had already had made some very important machines in this area of skin care.

They started work in 1997 and finished the prototype by the end of the year. The main problem was that the Sonophoresis (the use of sound waves to transport vitamin molecules through the skin) machine had to be developed and produced from concept as such a machine did not exist. It was very difficult to find someone who could understand the theory behind the machine that Dr Fernandes wanted to develop.

While the initial machine appeared to be an awkward double pack they had in fact developed a very good machine. By 1998 the first final prototype was made and from that the current Ionzyme DF Machine was produced.

Sonophoresis research was also being done at this time at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and while they were doing research and development on the concept of Sonophoresis they had in fact never done any testing on human or living animals. Once again Dr Fernandes was the pioneer of Somophoresis using this sound therapeutically. He had already used the prototype machine on himself as the first human patient and HAD ACTUALLY REMOVED a solar keratosis that he had on his leg. The lesion disappeared after 5 treatments of combined Sonophoresis and Iontophoresis.

With simple Iontophoresis (the penetration of gels into the skin via galvanic currents) it takes about 12 to 16 treatments before the clients are aware of any change. The Ionzyme DF Machine uses special wave patterns and frequencies, which is what makes this machine so unique and more effective. By combining Iontophoresis and Sonophoresis through one probe, therapists are able to address specific problems such as pigmentation marks, fine lines around the eye area and upper lip area and are seeing visible results after just a few treatments.
