Skin Specialist’s Review of CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion (not sponsored)

I have been using CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion (for normal to dry skin) for some time now. In this article, I will write a review of this product – the texture, packaging, how my skin feels afterwards.

For which skin type

I personally have normal to oily skin. This product is very lightweight and would be good for sensitive and rosacea-prone skin, oily and acne-prone skin, normal skin. It would also be good for someone with dry skin to use in the summer months. For dry skin for the winter months, I would recommend the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. It would be good for eczema-prone skin, as it is very lightweight – just reapply throughout the day on the area.

Packaging

It comes with a pump. The pump top easily turns to ‘open’ or ‘close’. The pump has worked really well for me. I find that I need just one pump of product to cover my whole face and neck. The pump is long enough to use up nearly all of the product. When the product is nearly finished, I usually cut the container with a pair of scissors, to scoop out what is left at the bottom.

Texture

CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion is a very lightweight formula. Once applied, it spreads easily. I find that it absorbs quickly. I usually pat dry my skin after cleansing, so my skin is still moist when I apply the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion. Like this I would benefit from the water on my skin, for more hydration as the water is ‘trapped’ in the skin when the product is applied. It does not feel greasy or heavy. It does not leave a dewy finish, but a soft supple feel to your skin. There is no scent to the product. Sometimes when I feel like I want to freshen up my face a little bit during the day, I re-apply throughout the day.

How do I use it – face and body

I use the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion in the morning and at night. In the morning I use it after my cleanser or Lactic Acid serum. Then I apply a sunscreen on top – I usually wait about 5 minutes until the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion is totally absorbed. In the evening I apply it on top of my treatment product – at the moment I am using Azelaic Acid. Usually I wait about 30 minutes before applying the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion. The CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion helps to even out the dryness and tightness from the Azelaic Acid, and my skin feels smooth and soft before going to bed.

Sometimes I would also use it on my body for a light body moisturizer, such as on my hands and arms. I find it quite light though for the body, so it is more to refresh or calm the area. However, I like it as a hand cream after washing my hands, as it absorbs quickly without feeling greasy, and I can continue my routine without having cream all over items I touch. For the hands usually I use less than a pump. Or I was using it when I had some hives due to a medication reaction – it felt soothing, hydrating, and calming. It would be good if you got a rash from after exposure to the sun, as it would refresh and cool the area. Or for eczema-prone areas on the body.

Benefits that I noticed on my skin

My skin feels softer, more plump and silkier to the touch. I can see how my skin looks healthier too – smooth, no fine lines from dehydration, and a healthy glow. The skin almost feels/looks like it is more elastic and dense with hydration. Also the moisturized feeling and look lasts quite a while during the day and throughout the night. I sometimes reapply during the day for a cooling and refreshing feel not because the skin would feel dry or not moisturized.

I like the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion when I apply it over treatment products that can be drying on the face (like retinol, salicylic acid), as it helps to soothe and hydrate the skin, removing that tightness feeling but not feeling greasy.

I personally do not get much redness on my face, but I can see how it has the properties to calm the redness and get an even skin tone colouring.

Some people have reported that it stings a little bit on their skin. I personally have not had any of this experience.

Other things that I like about this product

I like that it is fragrance-free, as fragrance is not good as it causes sensitivity in skin over time.

I like that it has a short list of ingredients, and just the few ingredients that you need in a moisturizer to do its work.

It is quite reasonably priced. Since you only need a little bit (it is controlled by a pump, and one pump goes a long way), it lasts quite a while.
